John was born in Swansea in the first quarter 1930, John went as a pupil to Dynevor in 1941 and witnessed the Swansea ‘Blitz’ when the school lost its hall and library which were housed in the corner block with its distinctive tower. He returned to the school as a teacher of Maths and later became a teacher of Physics.
He was form master for 4E/5E in 1964/5 where he earned the sobriquet ‘Ben’ Bowen, it being a play on words of the ‘BenBow Inn’ of Treasure Island. There is a photo of him with 5E in 1965 on the website.
