The 77th Annual Dinner of the Old Dy’vorians’ Association took place at Fulton House, University of Swansea, on Friday 17th April 2015. This saw Selwyn Walters, Year of ’58, take over from Dudley Sinnett as the new President.
We were very pleased to announce that Dennis Gethin, President of the Welsh Rugby Union, had accepted Selwyn’s invitation to be Chief Guest and Speaker at the Dinner.
Dennis Gethin was born in Seven Sisters and has enjoyed a successful career in both rugby and Law. During his rugby career he played against the 1963 New Zealand All Blacks whilst at Cambridge University and became the record points’ scorer for Cardiff. He gave up playing first class rugby to pursue his legal career in 1971. He was Chief Executive of Taff Ely Borough Council between 1982 and 1996 and became Secretary of the Welsh Rugby Union for five years until 2002. After retirement from the WRU he joined the BBC Broadcasting Council in Wales and was a member from 2004-2009. In 2007 he was elected President of the Welsh Rugby Union and continues to hold that office today.
In what is a Rugby World Cup year, this was a memorable evening for all the Old Dy’vorians!
