The ODA/Balconiers’ Day at St Helen’s

Championship match between Glamorgan and Derbyshire. As in previous years, there was another sizeable party of Dy’vorians and friends who enjoyed an excellent day in each other’s company.

At lunch, those present enjoyed a very interesting and informative talk on the cricketing career of former Glamorgan player Bernard Hedges. Bernard`s career with Glamorgan spanned 18 years and, during this time, he scored over 17,000 first-class runs.

We also learned of his achievements on the rugby field, where he played for Pontypridd and Swansea RFCs and earned a final Wales trial in 1950. The illustrated presentation was given by Stephen Hedges, Bernard’s son.

ODA Organiser, Ken Sharpe, was thanked for again organising in collaboration with The Balconiers another very successful social event which is now firmly established as an important day in the Dy’vorian calendar.
