Tudor Price (Year of ’58) provided further details: The teacher is most certainly Andrew Bird, a peripatetic Gym teacher, popularly known as ‘Oiseau’ among pupils, and as Sergeant Bird across the town. He was the model for the South Africa War memorial on the Promenade.
