The Annual Dinner of Friday 9th May returned to the Village Hotel in SA1 for another year and once more we were grateful to the Rev John Walters for discharging the duties of Master of Ceremonies with his customary light-heartedness and aplomb. John oversaw the installation by our outgoing President, Andrew Clemes, of his successor, Gareth Payne, who joined Dynevor in 1969 from Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Lôn Las. Our thanks go to Andrew for giving steadfast support to the Association during his Presidency and our best wishes to Gareth in what will undoubtedly be a busy year for the new President.
We again welcomed a guest speaker, and this year were entertained by the Merthyr Tydfil actor and writer, Steve Speirs, who gave us some intriguing insights, generously suffused with Merthyr humour, into the highs and lows of his career in the acting profession. We are truly grateful to Alun Griffiths for arranging Steve’s appearance at our Dinner after the late withdrawal of Caroline Sheen.
As always, we are indebted to our Annual Dinner organiser, Jeff Vaughan, for his sterling efforts in organising yet another enjoyable evening, and to Margaret Llewelyn for the kind help she has given us once more in processing the hundred or so bookings received in advance of the Dinner.
