Sponsored ‘Water Carry Walk’

Ann Barnes, Geography teacher, organised a sponsored ‘Water Carry Walk’ after an illustrated talk highlighted the plight of very young children in parts of Uganda who walked 5-7 miles every day to collect water. The aim of the sponsored walk was to raise money to provide wells and sewerage schemes in Uganda.
The walk set out along the promenade from the Holiday Inn to Brynmill Lane and back, watched by Swansea’s Mayor, Charles Bliss, Headmaster Alan Smith, and the chief organiser for ActionAid.  A group of juggling clowns added colour to the event, with photographs taken by the Evening Post and Western Mail. Gower Chemicals provided plastic containers that held 5 litres of water that pupils carried, and the Holiday Inn provided refreshments before and after the event. Let us know if you took part.
